Our congratulations to Sheila for her efforts in her basketball competition play.  I have copied a note from Sheila for all to read.

Sheila is amazing!!!!

Hi Tony,

Just back from the National Senior Games in Houston, Texas.  There were over 10,000 men and women, ages 50 and over, competing in 20 different sports.

I play on the CT High Fives 3 on 3 basketball team, ages 70-74, and we came in tied for 5th, with 16 teams competing in that age group.  That is the largest number of teams, in that age group, since the inception of the National Senior Games in 1987.  Considering we competed with injuries, 5th wasn't bad but, there is no substitute for victory!  Our record was 4-2, winning three of those games by 3 or less points and one in OT.  We blew out a NC team by 28 points.  Did lose to the eventual gold medal winners from Tennessee.  The quickness may be gone but the competitive spirit will never die!

Hope you'll put something on our FHS web page.

Will be at Evening of Taste tonight and all of the activities following this homecoming fair weekend.

Thanks Tony,
Sheila

Highlander.

Back in 2004 when the Highlander gathering started we thought it would be a onetime event but with the help of Ted Govoni and his dear friends Howie and Linda Plaud the proprietors of the Highlander the gathering went on for eight years.  Howie and Linda sold the Highlander property so sadly the Highlander is now a fond memory.  We want to wish Howie and Linda good luck in their future plans and want to thank them for the eight great years.  We may look for another location and look into continuing it if there is enough interest.

Thanks to the FHS Alumni for sending me this information concerning the New Bedford day gathering at the Shell Factory in Fort Myers.

Tony

Tuesday, March 13, 2012 is the date of the annual Greater New Bedford Reunion at the Shell Factory on Route 41 in Fort Myers, Florida.  The gathering always attracts a large number of FHS alums and Fairhaven residents who are retired in Florida or spending some of the winter months there.

If you’re in Florida on March 13th you’ll be amazed at the number of friends and acquaintances you’ll run into.  Organized by former New Bedford Mayor Brian Lawler, the event attracts more and more people each year.  He estimated that last year there were 800-900 in attendance.  The event is scheduled from 2:00 - 6:00 P.M. and the Shell Factory is the perfect location to accommodate such a large group and it’s easy to find.  From Interstate 75 you take Exit 143 and follow the signs to the Shell Factory which is on Route 41 (Tamiami Trail).
